Time magazine predicts the next 10 papers to fold or go all-digital:
- Philadelphia Daily News
- Minneapolis Star-Tribune
- Miami Herald
- Detroit News
- Boston Globe
- San Francisco Chronicle
- Chicago Sun-Times
- New York Daily News
- Ft. Worth Star Telegram
- Cleveland Plain Dealer
Not a whole lot of surprises; the more interesting question may be which papers should be on the deadpool list that aren't. In any case, broken-record time: The next few months are going to be hellacious.
(Irony: In the last major round of newspaper consolidation, a generation ago, Time's parent company shut down the Washington Star.)
The Plain Dealer would like to note that reports of our death are greatly exaggerated. Or, in the exact word of Publisher Terrance C.Z. Egger, "baseless."
