Many Americans–and all journalists–have a box of yellowing newspapers that preserve front pages and headlines from famous events. Tonight, I realized, the keepsakes I wanted to see were the headlines and homepages of major news sites at the very moment they heralded the news of Barack Obama's historic victory. Yet another way that times (and Times!) have changed.

Of course, an event like this also shows the limitations of some news sites to deliver on a major story...

Journalists need to be aware that they aren't just competing with other news outlets, they're competing with the people they cover. Now that everyone effectively owns a printing press, it's a whole new ballgame.
When Obama had his press conference with Biden, I ended up watching it at the campaign Web site.
