  • I'm CEO of Newspeg.com, a social news-sharing platform. I've spent 20 years at the intersection of traditional and digital journalism. I've helped to invent ways to read and interact with the news and advertising on computer screens and iPads, and before that, I wrote news stories on typewriters and six-ply paper. I read the article by Ms. Parker and can only agree that she has missed the boat. She repeats the familiar (to traditional media) idea that bloggers can act as fact checkers but can't produce news on their own. What's to stop a serious-minded blogger from doing a little journalistic research and writing a genuine news story from scratch?


Bloggers can be, and already are, in some cases, true journalists. The internet removed most of the barriers to entry to reporting news to large numbers of people.

No longer do you need an insane amount of money to put together a news organization. Printing costs are gone, or soon will be for most, and delivery costs are pretty much gone as well.
