Pegasus Rising

Congratulations to Mike Orren and his team at Pegasus News on the announcement of their acquisition by broadcaster Fisher Communications. This is a strong endorsement of the hyperlocal media concept by an old-line media company and a tribute to the great work Mike et al have done in Dallas to get Pegasus News up and running. Their original TexasGigs product was brilliant, and they've extended that into more general local coverage with the launch of PegasusNews over the past few months.

Kudos also to Seattle-based Fisher for having the foresight and vision to make an investment in a hyperlocal asset like Pegasus that they can now roll out around the country. They'll be able to use their radio and TV stations to jumpstart Pegasus hyperlocal sites and knit themselves more tightly into the communities they serve. I believe that hyperlocal is an important part of the future for media companies; Fisher is one of the first to take a big step in this direction.
